F(free) Class Rifle Rules

 
1.0 Rifles and Equipment
1.1 Rifles
 

Any Rifle that may be legally held by the competitor for use on the range may be used.

1.1.1. Calibre - For championship matches, any calibre up to 8.0mm is permitted. Club-level matches may use any calibre permitted on their respective range,
1.1.2. Muzzle-Brakes - Muzzle-Brakes, where gas ports are installed to direct muzzle gasses generally backwards for the purpose of reducing recoil, are not to be used. Flash eliminators are permitted.
1.1.3.
Trigger- Any Safe, mechanically operated trigger may be used. A trigger is deemed safe if:-
    1. Vigorously cycling the action does not result in the firing pin being released
    2. Triggers must be enclosed and protected by a Trigger Guard
    3. Existing Safety Catches may be removed
 1.1.4. Sights- Any sight system is permitted, provided it must be aligned by eye for each shot.
1.1.5. Weight- See "Divisions".
1.1.6. Ammunition- Any ammunition suitable for use in the rifle and legal for use by the shooter on the respective range may be used.
   
1.2 Support
   
1.2.1. Any type of rest (which May or may not be attached to the rifle ) may be employed for either the rifle's fore-end, barrel, or the forward hand.
1.2.2 The use of any type of rear rest other than one or two sandbags or the shooter's hand or arm is prohibited.
1.2.3. The use of a machine rest, bench rest or table (except where dispensation has been granted by the organising body for a   disabled competitor)   is prohibited.
   
1.3 Shooting Mats
   
1.3.1. Shooting mats, where used, must comply with the current rules applying to fullbore target rifle shooting.
   
1.4 Clothing
  Clothing is generally unrestricted, except that if an article of clothing is used as a shooting aid (e.g. Shooting jacket with hooks/buttons/etc., for slings) it must comply with the current rules applying to fullbore target rifle shooting.
   
 
2.0 Match Conditions and procedures
2.1 Divisions
  F-Class competition shall have up to divisions, based upon the weight of the equipment and at the discretion of the promoting body.
   
2.1.1. Standard Rifle division shall apply to all rifles that weigh less than 9.0 Kg, including the sights, but excluding the sling and/or bipod.
2.1.2 Heavy Rifle division shall be unrestricted in weight.
2.1.3. Field Rifle division shall apply to rifles that comply with the current Standard Shooting Rules for field class shooting.
   
2.2 Grading
  F-Class Competitors will be ungraded.
   
2.3 Shooting Position
  All shooting will be conducted from the prone position. However the use of a portable bench may be permitted when:-
   
2.3.1. When the competitor suffers a physical limitation making prone shooting impractical. Permission must be sought to use a bench prior to the match.
2.3.2. The published conditions of the match specifically permit the use of a portable bench
   
2.4 Loading and Firing
  In all matches, each round will be loaded and discharged singly.
   
2.5 Trigger Testing
  Trigger testing will be carried out randomly by the Range Officer. The competitor may choose between the current fullbore trigger test or the "vigorous-cycling" test. If a rifle fails the fullbore test, it must be retested using the vigorous-cycling test.
   
2.6 Time Limits
   
2.6.1. Where F-Class competitors are squadded with standard Fullbore Target Rifle competitors time limits for fullbore matches will apply.
2.6.2. Where F-Class competitors are squadded together for separate competition (particularly using the F-Class Championship targets), the following time limits include the firing of any sighting shots.
  1. 7 shot match at any distance: 7 minutes
  2. 10 shot match, any distance: 10 minutes
  3. 15 shot match, any distance: 15 minutes
  4. 20 shot match, any distance: 20 minutes
  For matches other than those listed above, the time limit will be calculated as one minute for each business shot. All sighting shots are to be taken within the calculated time.
   
2.7 Sighting Shots
  Unless otherwise specified in the match conditions, the competitor shall be entitled three convertible sighting shots.
   
3.0 Targets
3.1 There are three target options available. The first is a Championship target, specifically designed for this class of competition. The second is a Championship center mounted on a normal fullbore target. The third option is to use the normal fullbore targets. While the choice is left to the promoting body, it is highly recommended that either of the first two options be used for Open Prize Meetings.
   
3.2 F-Class Championship Targets
3.2.1 The Championship target shall have the following scoring dimensions:

3.2.2 Three (3) points shall be awarded for any other shot on the rest of the target area
3.2.3 The 300 target is to be used at 300 mtrs and 300 yards. The 500 target shall be used at 400 mtrs, 400 yards, 500 mtrs and 500 yards. The 800 target shall be used at 600 mtrs, 600 yards, 700 mtrs, 700 yards, 800 mtrs, 800 yards and 900 yards.
3.2.4. Where target frames are constructed specifically for use with scoped rifle targets, the target frame shall be 1200 mm square for the 300 and 500 target, and 1800 mm square for the 800 target.
3.2.5. Colouring of the scoring areas on the target shall be:
 
10 White 6 White line on Black
9   Black 5 Black
8   White 4 Black line on White
7   White line on black 3 Rest of target
3.2.6 Line widths shall not be not less than 1 mm per 100 meters/yards, 3 mm at 300mtrs/yards, 5 mm at 500 mtrs/yards. The scoring dimensions must extend to the outside edge of the line- i.e. the line is to be included in the scoring area.
   
3.3 Championship Centres
3.3.1 Where a replaceable scoped rifle centre is used on a standard fullbore target the scoring shall be:
  1. On touching the replaceable target centre - scoring indicated on the target face.
  2. Elsewhere in or touching the black aiming mark - Five points
  3. Anywhere else on the target - three points.
3.3 Fullbore Targets
3.4.1. Where standard NRA fullbore targets are used, an extra point shall be awarded for each center scored. In this case, score signalling by the marker will be as per current fullbore practices, i.e. When the competitor shoots a V-bull, they will score six points, thus for example a 49 - 7 would be converted to 56 (not 56-7).
   
3.5 Championship Target Score Signalling
 

The following value disk/wand positions will be used for scoring when using the following
Championship targets or centers:

 
10 Bottom Right 6 Middle Left
9   Bottom Center 5 Top Right
8   Bottom Left 4 Top Center
7   Middle Right 3 Top Left

3.6 Gauging
 
All shots on the target close to scoring lines shall be gauged to 8.0 mm.
